WOMEN’S FOOTBALL WEEKLY

The five-minute read for dedicated-ish fans of women’s football.

TOP FIVES

Our top five moments of 2025

  1. England winning Euro 2025 and retaining their title against the odds.

  2. Eighteen years on from their first European crown, Arsenal Women became champions of Europe again.

  3. The first-ever £1 million transfer fee was paid (for Olivia Smith).

  4. Chelsea’s domestic treble – an impressive start for Bompastor in her first year in charge.

  5. The most unlikely candidates, Everton, put an end to Chelsea’s unbeaten run.

Our alternative top five moments of 2025

  1. Mary Earps’ shock retirement, book launch and the subsequent Hannah Hampton fall-out.

  2. Chloe Kelly’s deadline day move on the back of those spicy social media comments and claims of character assassination.

  3. Sonia Bompastor revealed that she had been in a secret relationship with her assistant coach, Camille Abily, for 13 years, and they have four children together.

  4. Sam Kerr was found not guilty of racially harassing a police officer. Our favourite moment, outside of the serious stuff, was when the judge had to clarify what Kerr meant when she said that she and Kristie Mewis met after Mewis “slid into my DMs”.

  5. The WSL rebrand triggering an almighty backlash, showing just how seriously fans take women’s football.
